Word Critters: Read & Catch, for iPhone and iPad

Get in touch

Email david@davidlaucreative.com with a short description of the problem and the device you're using (iPhone or iPad, and the iOS version). David Lau runs Word Critters, so you'll hear from a real person.

Please don't send photos or videos of your child, and don't include anything about your child beyond their first name, if you want to mention it. The app keeps no records we can see, so we can't look up your child's progress.

Common questions

Do I need an account or a password?
No. There are no accounts, so there's nothing to sign in to and nothing to reset.

How do I start over, or clear everything?
Go to Settings and choose Reset app. You'll be asked the grown-ups-only question first. This deletes the progress, the team, the word lists and the settings stored on this device. Deleting the app does the same.

Voice recognition isn't working.
Voice recognition is optional and off until a grown-up turns it on, from the card on the first practice screen, in Settings, or with the microphone button on the practice and boss battle screens. It needs the microphone permission: if you've said no, turn it on in the iPhone or iPad Settings app under Word Critters. It runs on the phone, so it works without the internet. If it hears a different word, the card shows what it heard and waits for another try. You can always tap Got it! instead.

Can I use my child's school spellings?
Yes. Go to Word lists, choose New list, and paste the words in. You can also take a photo of the list and ask an AI app to type out the words, then paste them in.

Does Word Critters work offline?
Yes. Everything works without an internet connection, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Is there an Android version?
It's coming soon. Follow the website for updates.

Privacy and About
